Write Better Assistant ("the extension", "we", "us") is a Chrome extension that improves, rewrites, and translates text you select on web pages. This policy explains what information the extension handles and why. We are committed to collecting as little data as possible.

What we handle, and why
1. Text you choose to rewrite When you select text and choose an action (such as "Make Professional" or "Translate"), that selected text is sent securely to our backend server, which forwards it to a third-party AI model provider to generate the result. We do not use your text to train any AI models. We do not store the text of your rewrites on our servers; it is processed to create your result and then discarded.
2. Your rewrite history (stored only on your device) Each rewrite (the original text, the result, and the title of the page you were on) is saved in your browser's local storage (chrome.storage.local) on your own computer. This history never leaves your device and is not sent to us. You can clear it at any time from the extension's options page. We do not collect the web address (URL) of pages you visit.
3. Your account information To sign in, the extension uses Google Sign-In. When you sign in, we store your email address and a Google account identifier on our backend (hosted with a secure cloud authentication and database provider). This is used to identify your account, apply your plan (Free or Pro), and track how many rewrites you have used so we can enforce usage limits.
4. Usage counts We store a count of how many rewrites you have made in the current period, so we can apply the limits of your plan. We do not store the contents of those rewrites on our servers.
5. Payment information If you upgrade to Pro, payments are handled entirely by our payment processor, Polar. We never see or store your credit card or banking details. We only receive confirmation of your subscription status so we can activate your Pro plan.
What we do NOT do
- We do not sell or rent your data to anyone.
- We do not use your data for advertising.
- We do not track your browsing activity or the websites you visit.
- We do not store the URLs of pages you use the extension on.
- We do not use your text to train AI models.
Permissions the extension uses
- Reading selected text on web pages: so we can rewrite the text you choose.
- Clipboard access: so the copy/cut/paste buttons in the toolbar work.
- Storage: to save your preferences and rewrite history on your device.
- Identity / Sign-in: to sign you in with your Google account.
Third-party services we rely on
We rely on a small number of trusted service providers to operate the extension:
- AI model provider: generates rewrites from the text you submit.
- Cloud authentication & database provider: stores your account information and usage counts.
- Payment processor (Polar): handles Pro subscription billing.
Each of these providers has its own privacy policy governing how they handle data.
Data retention and deletion
Your on-device history stays until you clear it or remove the extension. Your account information (email, usage counts) is kept while your account is active. To request deletion of your account data, email us at support@writebetterassistant.com.
Children
Write Better Assistant is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top. Significant changes will be reflected in the extension or on our website.
